"THE STAGE AND THE SILVER SCREEN"

June 20 to July 8, 2011

3 weeks of General English instruction - 15 hrs. per week

PLUS creative participation in:

THE STAGE : The village of Wakefield hosts the smallest of the International Fringe Festivals: the "Piggyback Fringe" (named so because our first festival in 2008 'piggybacked' on to the Ottawa Fringe Festival).
"PiggyFest" is hugely popular with the touring artists and audiences from near and far alike. 2011 will be our 4th "Piggy" - June 24 to June 26.

Included for “Stage and Screen” participants: 

• a festival pass to all performances and workshops at the "Piggyback Fringe"
• two performances at the Ottawa Fringe Festival
• two exclusive Question and Answer session with a Fringe performer, director, producer, stage manager or stage/sound technician.
• 5 extra hours of language sessions with special focus on theatre related topics to help with understanding and enjoying the festival and workshops.
• The opportunity to work ‘behind the scenes’ as a festival volunteer. By joining our enthusiastic volunteers you will meet some very entertaining, fun people and get involved in the community. This will make you practice your English in a very hands-on way. You will also learn about many aspects of festival and event organization and about play production.

THE SILVER SCREEN: In 2011, documentary filmmakers Robert and Brenda Rooney will be offering their Film Atelier for adults. River Echo students will join local aspiring film makers to create - write, film, and edit - two video shorts over 5 days. Robert and Brenda's successful carrer in both film and theatre spans several decades and covers everything from directing and producing to scriptwriting and publicity. Brenda and Robert are the driving force behind the "Wakefield International Film Festival" (WIFF).

Included for “Stage and Screen” participants: 

• a DVD of all produced videos for participants to keep
• all videos will be posted on YouTube (unless not wanted by participant)
• 5 extra hours of language sessions with special focus on film related topics to help with the film atelier
• An exclusive Q & A with Robert and Brenda.
